About Me

Michael Krueger (b. 1990) is a music educator and the founder of Kruegermusik, a music organization providing educational, conducting, arranging, and compositional services. Through Kruegermusik, Michael collaborates with musicians, students, educators, and ensembles across the United States, developing performances, creating new music, and supporting the growth of emerging musicians. 

As a composer, Krueger primarily writes for wind ensembles, chamber ensembles, and marching ensembles. His music has been performed at honor band concerts, festivals, and conferences throughout the United States. His most widely recognized work, For Patrick, was included in Volume 11 of GIA Publications’ Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series and has been featured by The Composers Circle and Musicuratum. His composition Alone was premiered at the 2017 International Trombone Festival and later recorded on Dr. Matthew Hoormann’s debut solo album, SOMNILOQUY. In 2016, a consortium of fifteen bands commissioned Symphony 3: The Dreamer. Symphony 3 has been performed by middle school, high school, university, and community bands.

Committed to supporting emerging composers, Krueger has commissioned wind ensemble works by Catherine Hoelscher, Rob Funkhouser, Cara Haxo, Tyler Maxey, Reilly Cipullo, and Rhiannon Carter. In 2025, he was featured on the Learning Vibes podcast for a three-episode series discussing composition and his creative process. Krueger continues to support young, emerging, and unrepresented composers his whole career.

Krueger served as Assistant Conductor of the Circle City Orchestra during its 2025–2026 season and conducted the orchestra at the 2026 Indiana Music Education Association Conference. He believes in the power of making music with his community and, as part of that mission, has been involved with various community bands as a substitute and guest conductor, including the Hillcrest Concert Band, University Heights Symphonic Band, Greenwood Community Band, and Indianapolis Municipal Band. He is also an active adjudicator for wind ensembles and marching bands, including solo and ensemble and large group events for the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA).

From 2024-2026, Krueger served as Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Marian University. Before Marian, he spent eight years at Notre Dame College, where he ultimately served as Co-Director of Performing Arts, Assistant Professor of Music, and Director of Instrumental Studies. From 2016–2020, he also served on the drum major and student leadership staff for Fred J. Miller Summer Clinics. In 2020, he was a founding member of Music Effect Design, and in 2021 received the NDC President’s Lecture Award for his work with the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, he received Notre Dame College’s Distinguished Faculty Award.

Krueger holds a Master of Music in Music Composition from Butler University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His primary mentors include Dr. Michael Schelle, Dr. Robert Grechesky, Dr. John Bell, and Dr. Kimberly Archer. He holds professional memberships in ASCAP, CBDNA, and NAFME, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi.
